Running From Lions
by Erik Powell
“Running From Lions is a rich African mystery metaphorically pace like a lurking, crouching lion toying with its prey by allowing an exotic lark before launching its devastating attack ...It is a work transcending genre with haunting, pervasive ambiguity in a masterful archetypal journey into love, racism, and avarice.”
-Thane Boulton, Thane and Prose
“The African continent is mysterious and rugged and can be dangerous. Lions and elephants and impala and wildebeests roam the veld. So do men. Erik Powell, Sr. takes us on an exciting safari, one that has the smell of verisimilitude about it.”
- Barthélemy Banks, the Mumm trilogy
An international cast of sophisticates on safari in South Africa are harassed by a killer lion – and by a human killer – in the last days of Mandela. Two Americans visit an African wildlife reserve run by a German family. A mysterious curfew restricts their movements, but guided daily forays into the Lowveld and liberating Happy Hours allow new relationships to form and to develop – and to cause old resentments to resurface and to fester, leading to murder.
